Demolition Nears Completion At 168 North Clinton Street In West Loop

168 North Clinton Street demolition update August 2026About one-quarter of the loft office building at 168 North Clinton Street remains standing.

The demolition project we’ve been documenting of the vintage loft office building at 168 North Clinton Street is nearing its completion in the West Loop. After receiving permission to tear the structure down in January, the demo crew from Atlas Industries got to work in May, tearing down the building from the north façade inward, then working their way toward the front along Clinton Street.

Now only a rear portion of the structure remains along the alley off West Lake Street. The entire razing was expected to take three months while workers diligently protect cars parked next door, the two-story masonry building that shares the parking lot to the north, and the glass-clad CTA headquarters across the alley behind the site.

The Clinton Green/Pink Line elevated platform remains the best vantage point for viewing the end of demolition work; two other photographers were up there capturing images and video when I visited on August 7th.

Now the pressure to sell on that last building, Dunkin’ I believe, can begin in earnest. Then they will have the whole plot.

Look at what happened with One Chicago when the diner/cleaners did not sell at Dearborn and Superior. Now they just sit empty looking pathetic.
