A permit was approved late last week for a new three-story residential building at 3920 S Calumet Avenue in the Grand Boulevard neighborhood. The owner is listed as Eagle OZB I LLC. This developer has also received permits for 3924 S Calumet Avenue, and plans indicate this project will also result in three flats, each with its own rear open porch. The permits also include a detached three-car garage. The development will replace a vacant lot.

Iconic Art Institute Lions Removed for Cleaning

The Art Institute of Chicago’s lions were removed early Tuesday morning for a scheduled treatment. It has been decades since the lions were last removed for maintenance, and according to a release by the Art Institute, is a necessary step to preserve the iconic figure. While removed from their post, the lions will be high-pressured steamed, checked for corrosion, and given a hot wax treatment.

Landmarks Approves The Congress Theater Redevelopment

The Permit Review Committee has approved the Congress Theater redevelopment. Located at 2135 N Milwaukee Avenue in Logan Square, the historic Congress Theater sits at the corner of N Milwaukee Avenue and N Rockwell Street. Baum Revision is the developer and as previously reported they are working in tandem with Woodhouse Tinucci Architects.

Landmarks Approves Rehab at 5200 W Chicago Avenue in Austin

The Permit Review Committee has approved plans for the rehabilitation of the Laramie State Bank Building at 5200 W Chicago Avenue in Austin. The rehab is planned as part of the Austin United Alliance which recently won the Austin Invest South/West RFP. The development is being led by Heartland Housing Alliance and the Oak Park Regional Housing Center.

The law firm, Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner (BCLP) has downsized its Chicago office located at 161 N Clark Street in The Loop. The firm partnered with NELSON Worldwide for the renovation-in-place which converted offices from three to two floors. These renovations come in response to changing business needs and shifting work models.

The permit has been listed under the 1635 S California Boulevard, and the owners are indicated as Pilsen Rentals, LLC. Per plans, the construction will be comprised of three total dwelling units with a basement. Each unit will be outfitted with a metal porch at the rear. Plans also indicate the presence of a three-vehicle parking pad. The property lot is currently vacant.

There will be a rooftop deck, a basement, and a detached three-vehicle garage with its own rooftop deck.

New Condos Planned for 3035 N Sheffield Avenue in Lake View
