Permits were issued on this past week for a new three-story residential building located at 1528 N Wood Street in the Wicker Park neighborhood. The project will replace an existing structure. The permit owner is listed as Volo Holdings LLC, and plans indicate that the development will include three total units, each equipped with outdoor space at the rear. There will be a rooftop deck, a basement, and a detached three-vehicle garage with its own rooftop deck.

John C Hanna is the architect of record. As of now, no drawings or renderings have been made public. There are two masonry contractors listed and the building will involve a brick exterior.

Future residents will have CTA L access for the Blue Line at the Damen station via an eight-minute walk west. The Route 72 bus service can be found at North Ave & Wood at the top of the block via a one-minute walk. This site is well situated for dining and retail along the N Milwaukee and N Damen Avenues which intersect and are readily accessed by foot.

Diamond Partnership LLC will be acting as the general contractor behind the reportedly $773,600 construction. A timeline or completion date for the project has not been released.

  1. This home has played an important role in my family history. My Scandinavian great grandparents met at this location in 1890. A home at this address was owned from at least the early 1880s by a German immigrant family and their descendants until the time of WWI. In the 1910s my grandmother and great aunts would visit here and be taken care of when they came from their Wisconsin farm to earn money for the family in Chicago.
