A former Little Village Library is about to have a new lease on life. Latinos Progresando, a nonprofit specializing in legal aid for immigrants, leads the project to convert the abandoned space into a community center to be completed by next spring.
Permits were issued on Friday for the construction of a new three-story multi-unit building in the Lincoln Park neighborhood. The owner is listed as 2051 N Racine LLC, and the current plans indicate this project will yield a total of three dwelling units. The second- and third-floor units will feature front balconies as well as private decks at the rear. The build with also have a roof deck and pergolas; and a detached three-vehicle garage with its own rooftop deck. The development will replace an existing structure.
A permit was approved earlier this week for a new three-story residential building at 4950 S Michigan Avenue in the Grand Boulevard neighborhood. The owner is listed as Amy Chin and plans indicate this project will yield three total units, each with a rear open porch. Additionally, the permits include a detached three-car garage. The development will replace a vacant lot.
DANK Haus German American Cultural Center took the first steps on Tuesday toward securing $1.5 million in city funding for its accessibility goals. The nonprofit, which was founded in 1959, has been located at 4740 N Western Avenue in Lincoln Square since 1967. The building itself dates back to the 1920s and has had little updating since the original build. DANK Haus is hoping to utilize Tax Increment Financing (TIF) funds to begin a $2.3 million renovation that would include the building’s bathrooms as well as its front entrance. According to executive director Monica Jirak, these renovations would be completed in order to meet American Disability Act standards, as well as to upgrade the building’s aging plumbing. The city’s approval of the initial proposal on Tuesday was the first step in the process to procure TIF funding.
A demolition permit has been issued for the removal of an eight-story masonry building located at 4155 S Packers Avenue in the New City neighborhood. The permit’s owner has been listed as JEHM Financial LLC.
