New Roof Takes Shape At Former Morton Salt Factory in West Town

Replacement roofing can now be seen taking place atop the main shed at West Town’s former Morton Salt Warehouse. This replacement serves as the first key step in a larger adaptive re-use project, which will transform the former facility into a new entertainment and office venue. Located at 1357 N Elston Avenue, the factory was originally completed in 1930, where it long served as the central production and manufacturing hub for the salt company. In 2017, R2 Companies purchased the aging complex from Morton Salt, while partnering with Blue Star Star Properties and Skydeck (a subsidiary of The Michael Polsky Family Office in Chicago) in the process.

Facade Work Progresses at 1525 N Elston Avenue in West Town

Metal paneling continues to enshroud the six-story office building at 1525 N Elston Avenue in West Town. Developed by Property Adventures Corp, the boutique project encompasses 18,000 square feet, with office space divided between five suites on the second through sixth floors.

New Permit Issued for 2651 W Augusta Boulevard in West Town

A permit was approved yesterday for a new three-story residential building at 2651 W Augusta Boulevard in the West Town neighborhood. The owner is listed as William Tsourapas and the plans indicate this project will feature three total dwelling units, a basement level, and a rear garage. The lot is currently vacant.

A permit was approved yesterday for a new two-story residential building to be located at 2442 W Division Street in the West Town neighborhood. The owner is listed as Mahesz Erukulla with plans that indicate this project will feature two units, a metal porch, and a rooftop deck. The permit also indicates the presence of a separate frame garage on site. The lot is currently vacant.

Structural Work for Inspire West Town Climbs to Fifth Floor at 1140 W Erie Street

Structural work has reached the fifth floor for an eight-story mixed-use project known as Inspire West Town, developed by Bond Companies. Located at 1140 W Erie Street in West Town, the project’s scope involves ground-floor retail, 113 apartment units, and various amenities. Six of the 113 units will be affordable, while another 17 off-site affordable units will be subsidized by the developer.

Facade Wraps up on Nevele22 Development in West Town

Nearly all exterior paneling has been installed on the seven-story mixed-use building known as Nevele22, located at 1122 W Chicago Avenue in West Town. A development by Lipe Property Company, the building’s 97,000 square feet of programming will include 6,000 square feet of commercial space, 97 apartment dwellings, and parking for 39 vehicles.

Permit Issued for 830 N Marshfield Avenue in West Town

A new construction permit has been issued for 830 N Marshfield Avenue in West Town, set to yield a new three-story residential building with three apartments. The owner, listed as The Alverna Group LLC, has planned for a basement level, a roof deck, a stairway rear open deck, an open porch, and a detached one-story, three-car garage with its own rooftop deck.

Renovation permits have been approved for an existing three-story masonry building under the address 1840 W Augusta Boulevard in West Town. The alterations will comprise of an interior conversion from six to eight dwellings, as well as the construction of a new rear porch and basement slab. The permit ownership has been listed under the name “1840 W Augusta LLC Agent Gabe Horstick.”

Construction permits have been approved for a new three-story, four-unit residential building in West Town. In addition to the planned units, the development will come with a rooftop deck and stair enclosure, a basement, front and rear decks, and a rear four-car garage with a separate rooftop deck. The project is filed under Sean Walsh, while the site is currently occupied by a two-story frame building. Demolition permits for this existing structure were issued late last month.
