Initial Details Revealed For Affordable Housing Along 63rd Street In Woodlawn

The Chicago Housing Authority and Department of Planning and Development have revealed initial details for its upcoming Request For Proposal (RFP) for affordable housing in Woodlawn. The plan centers around 13 city-owned lots located along E 63rd Street between S Ingleside Avenue and S University Avenue, which are part of a larger plan that includes a total of 52 lots mainly south of 63rd Street. The goal of developing this first phase of multi-unit buildings is to be able to gather further funding for the remainder of the lots.

Updated Details Revealed For Galleria 89 In South Chicago

Updated details have been revealed for Invest South/West winner Galleria 89 at 8840-8854 S Commercial Avenue in South Chicago. Located on the northwest corner with E 89th Street, the new project will replace a one-story commercial building with a new structure along with rehabbing an adjacent existing building. Led by developer 548 Capital and designed by the Rivetna Architects and Farr Associates, the concept was presented to the Committee on Design earlier this week.

Structured Development Launches Second Phase of Harrison Row Townhomes in East Garfield Park

Structured Development has announced its second phase construction of Harrison Row Townhomes at 2849 W Congress Parkway, an affordable for-sale townhome community in Chicago’s East Garfield Park. This phase includes 33 total residences, each with three bedrooms and 1.5 baths. There will be a major modular element to this project, with 14 of these duplex townhomes, a total of 28 units, built with modular construction. The homes are to be priced from $245,000 under the City’s Affordable Requirements Ordinance, targeting prospective residents making up to 120 percent of the Area Median Income. These buyers are to be sourced through the Chicago Community Land Trust, whose objective is to preserve long term housing affordability. This development serves as a means to provide reasonably-priced housing to those who may not be able to afford market rate housing, but are excluded from other ARO developments targeting those making up to 60 percent of the Area Median Income. A portion of the project will help Structured Development fulfill its ARO obligations for the underway Shops at Big Deahl masterplan, located along the Clybourn Corridor.

City Council Approves Land Purchase For Affordable Housing In Pilsen

The Chicago City Council has approved the acquisition of various vacant city lots in Pilsen for the creation of affordable housing. The lots are located at the intersection of S Peoria Street and W 18th Street and represent the largest developable property in the neighborhood and future construction would continue the vibrant street wall along 18th Street. The $12 million purchase of the 6.3 acres by the city brings the tally of money spent towards affordable housing up to $1 billion, a major investment in many changing communities.

City Council Approves Redevelopment At 2653 N Clark Street In Lincoln Park

The Chicago City Council has approved the redevelopment and land-use agreement for The Covent Hotel mixed-use renovation at 2653 N Clark Street in Lincoln Park. Located on the corner with W Drummond Place just a few blocks from the lake, the proposal would reconvert the Single Room Occupancy (SRO) property into affordable studios led by the National Historic Preservation (NHP) Foundation. The approval would also allow for city funds to be distributed to NHP to fulfill the conversion that has been in the works since 2019.
