The Chicago Community Development has approved funding for the redevelopment and renovation of multiple affordable housing buildings in Uptown. Dubbed the Heart of Uptown Apartments, or HUPA, the five building project is being led by a joint venture made up of the Preservation Of Affordable Housing (POAH) and Voice of the People Uptown.
An initial rendering and funding have been revealed for the mixed-use development at 2525 N Kedzie Boulevard in Logan Square. Located just south of the neighborhood’s central traffic circle, the project would replace an existing property on the intersection with N Linden Place. The proposal is being led by Bickerdike Redevelopment who is also working on 5853 N Broadway.
Potential partial funding has been announced for the affordable housing development at 1237 N California Avenue in West Town. Located on the intersection with W Crystal Street and across the street from Humboldt Park itself, the project will be replacing a now vacant lot. Efforts are being led by the Hispanic Housing Development Corporation with local-firm DesignBridge working on its design.
Additional financing has been approved for the residential development at 547 W Oak Street in the Near North Side. Located on the intersection with N Larrabee Street, the proposal is the first phase of redeveloping a long-term vacant lot owned by the Chicago Housing Authority (CHA). The project is being led by developer BDM-I LLC made up of Brinshore & The Michaels Development Corporation.
In March 2024, the Chicago area’s housing market saw a slight dip in home sales compared to the previous year, with total sales totaling 6,794 in the nine-county Chicago Metro Area. This represented a 14.1% decrease from March 2023, coupled with a 15.5% drop in available homes for purchase, leaving only 10,409 homes on the market according to Norada Real Estate Investments
