The Chicago Community Development Commission has approved financing for the residential development at 9633 S Cottage Grove Avenue in Pullman. Located north of the intersection with E 99th Street and surrounded by rail tracks, I-94, and Chicago State University, the project replaces a one-story commercial building near a heavily forested vacant lot. Part of the larger $1 billion in funding approved for affordable housing, developers Trinity United Church of Christ is working with Johnson and Lee Architects on the design of the multi-phase proposal.
The Chicago Plan Commission has approved the mixed-use development at 301 E 43rd Street in Bronzeville. Dubbed 43Green Phase II, the project comes after the completion and success of the first phase west of the CTA tracks. Replacing a one-story commercial building on the site, developers P3 Markets and The Habitat Company have teamed up with Moody Nolan and Landon Bone Baker Architects on the design of the new structure. An official groundbreaking has been held for the mixed-use development at 1134 S Wood Street in the Illinois Medical District. Located near the intersection with W Roosevelt Road, it replaces an existing surface parking lot belonging to one of the developers. That being the Chicago Lighthouse, a local non-profit, who is partnering with Brinshore Development and Landon Bone Baker Architects on the first-of-its-kind building.
Initial permits have been approved for the residential conversion of the former Lorali Hotel at 1039 W Lawrence Avenue in Uptown. Located on the southwest corner of the intersection with N Kenmore Avenue, the empty building most recently served as an SRO three years ago before being vacated by its current owner. Owner Jim Stoller has been working towards making the conversion a reality since 2019 when he received zoning approval along with relocating the building’s past residents at his own expense.
The Chicago Housing Authority has listed details for upcoming affordable apartments in Lucy Gonzalez Parsons Apartments (formerly Emmett Street Apartments) located at 2614 N Emmett Street in Logan Square. The seven-story mixed-use building includes 4,300 square feet of ground-floor retail, and currently offers 41 affordable units, and office space for building management.
