Proposals Revealed For West Garfield Park RFQ

Two proposals have been revealed by the Department of Planning and Development for their West Garfield Park RFQ at 3811 W Madison Street. Located on the corner with S Hamlin Boulevard and directly across the street from Garfield Park itself, the project will replace a vacant grocery store and its parking lot that were recently acquired by the city. Plan Commission Approves Affordable Housing Development In Lower West Side

The Chicago Plan Commission has approved the affordable housing development at 2136 S Ashland Avenue in the Lower West Side. Located just north of the intersection with W Cermak Road, we first covered the proposal in January which will be replacing a vacant lot across the street from Benito Juarez High School. Dubbed ‘Casa Yucatan’, the structure is being developed by The Resurrection Project who are working with local architecture firm DesignBridge on it.

Groundbreaking Held For First Phase Of Encuentro Square In Logan Square

A groundbreaking has been held for the residential development at 1805 N Hamlin Avenue in Logan Square. The project is located right off of the westernmost edge of the 606 trail and replaces a no-demolished one-story masonry building, dubbed ‘Encuentro Square’, it will be split into multiple phases with public parkland as well. In attendance were members of developer Latin United Community Housing Association (LUCHA) who worked with Canopy Architecture and Site Design Group on the buildings.

Fifth City Commons Breaks Ground at 3155 West 5th Avenue in West Side

A groundbreaking ceremony occurred this past week in East Garfield Park with the commencement of the Fifth City Commons affordable housing project. This redevelopment targets an underutilized plot, nestled in the city’s West Side at 3155 West 5th Avenue. Realized by Preservation of Affordable Housing Inc (POAH), the new construction will consist of a three-story edifice providing 43 for-rent apartments and 4,300 square feet of ground-floor retail space.
