Excavation is now underway for a 12-story apartment building at 1630 South Wabash Avenue in South Loop. This residential development, undertaken by CMK Companies, will house a total of 149 rental units. The building will be located on a previously vacant lot just east of the elevated CTA tracks. This nine-story, 83,000-square-foot building, dedicated to Puerto Rican activist Pedro Albizu Campos, stands across from the Humboldt Park grounds on a site previously occupied by an empty lot. The Hispanic Housing Development Corporation (HHDC) is leading the project, with Pappageorge Haymes as the architect and Path Construction as the general contractor.

Developed by CMK Companies, the new nine-story residential building, with a height of 115 feet, is set to house 37 residential units. These units will include 11 studios, 10 one-bedrooms, 14 two-bedrooms, and two three-bedrooms on the top floor with private terraces. In compliance with city regulations, 20 percent of these units will be designated as affordable.
