This mixed-use development by CMK Companies, replacing a vacant lot directly east of the CTA tracks, will feature 149 rental units above ground-floor retail. A permit for the foundation and partial superstructure was issued in late October, followed by the issuance of the full permit in early December.
Breaking into the ninth place on 2023’s year-end countdown in the mixed-use development at 424 S Wabash Avenue in the South Loop. Located on the corner of E Van Buren Street and S Wasbash Avenue, the project is expected to break ground soon as it received its initial permits earlier this month. The development is being led by DAC Developments with The Sonder Group, partnering with Chicago-based Pappageorge Haymes Partners on its design.

Pedro Albizu Campos Apartments, ranking 29th in the year-end countdown, is a nine-story affordable housing project at 1203 N California Avenue, adjacent to Humboldt Park. Occupying the site of a formerly vacant lot, this 83,000-square-foot structure honors the legacy of Puerto Rican activist Pedro Albizu Campos. The Hispanic Housing Development Corporation (HHDC) spearheads the project, collaborating with Pappageorge Haymes for the architectural design. The development will incorporate 2,500 square feet of retail space on the first floor and 64 units of affordable housing on the upper levels.
