Demolition Permit Issued For Former Branko’s Sandwich Shop In Lincoln Park

A demolition permit has been issued for a two-story masonry building at 1118 West Fullerton Avenue in the Lincoln Park neighborhood. It was the former home of Branko’s Sandwich Shop, a DePaul campus stalwart for almost 50 years. The restaurant closed in 2024, and the building, erected in 1908 and owned by the Branko family, sold earlier this year for $1.1 million, according to real estate records. The permit, issued June 11th, names Precision Excavation as the demolition contractor, at a reported cost of $29,500.

Renderings Revealed For 3122 W Belmont Avenue In Avondale

Renderings have been revealed for the mixed-use development at 3122 W Belmont Avenue in Avondale. We first covered the proposal at the corner near the Kennedy Expressway earlier this year. The small, wedge-shaped project is being led by Lukaven Development, which has worked on multiple single-family homes in the area.

The Lawndale Christian Development Corporation has received permission this month to build 10 affordable single-family homes in the North Lawndale neighborhood. Eight permits were issued on June 10, one on June 9, and one on June 5. Their applications were filed between November 2024 and January of this year, and each permit shows a reported construction cost of $300,000.

Groundbreaking Held For Humboldt Park Passive Living at 3831 W Chicago Avenue

A groundbreaking ceremony was held for the mixed-use development at 3831 W Chicago Avenue in Humboldt Park. Dubbed Humboldt Park Passive Living, the project has been in the works for a few years and is located near the intersection with N Pulaski Road. The event, held two weeks ago, was attended by the mayor and developer 548 Development.

4907 North Paulina Street construction update

It’s still very early in the construction progress at 4709 North Paulina Street in Uptown, but it’s already showing signs of what its renderings depicted. Masonry work on the front façade of the first floor indicates this will be bricked in as it goes up, highlighting brick and limestone markings on the courtyard-style apartment building and its west-facing bay windows.

Partial Funding Announced For 5050 Prairie In Grand Boulevard

Partial funding has been granted for the upcoming mixed-use development at 5050 S Prairie Avenue in Grand Boulevard. Located at the corner of E 51st Street, the proposal, dubbed 5050 Prairie, will replace a large vacant lot and a pair of existing commercial buildings. The funding comes from the city’s Community Development Grant.

2929 West Washington Boulevard construction permitted

Permission has been granted by the City of Chicago to build a three-story, three-unit residential building at 2929 West Washington Boulevard in Garfield Park. Cipher Construction LLC is named as the general contractor, and is registered to the same Oak Park address as the listed owner of the property. The application to build was filed on March 28, and it came through on May 29 with a reported construction cost of $600,000.

Details Revealed For Community Hub In Little Village

Details have been revealed for a new community center at 2653 S Kildare Avenue in Little Village. Sitting on the northeast corner with W 27th Avenue, the proposal will eventually be replacing a large vacant lot in the west end of the neighborhood. The project is being led by local nonprofit Erie Neighborhood House.

The application for the three-story plus basement, two-unit building was filed on April 11 and the permit came through on June 5th showing a reported construction cost of $750,000.

Located mid-block between W Barry Avenue and W Nelson Street, the small project will replace a pair of garage buildings and part of a vacant lot.
