Plans for Old Town Canvas at 1600 N LaSalle Drive are finally moving forward after receiving approval from the Committee on Zoning earlier this week. Located at the intersection with W North Avenue in Old Town, the project has been in development for several years, facing some of the most intense and arguably unwarranted opposition the city has seen in recent memory.
Construction crews continue to work at ground level of Parkside Phase III on the Near North Side. On a previous visit in December, site prep was underway, as excavators began tearing up concrete and asphalt that used to cover the lot. Now, they’re progressing on foundation work for the three entities that comprise the third phase.
A two-story, two-unit building has been permitted for construction at 1633 South Jefferson Street on Chicago’s Lower West Side. The location, a long-empty lot next to the recently-built Thomas Jefferson Park and playground, straddles the boundaries of Pilsen and the South Loop. The permit was issued on April 8, with an application date of February 7. It shows a reported construction cost of $3,303, which is probably not accurate.
Plans for the partial residential conversion of 30 N LaSalle Street in The Loop, part of the city’s LaSalle Street Reimagined initiative. Now more than two years in the making, the project has been slightly altered and approved by the city’s Permit Review Committee, leaving just final approval of its funding outstanding.
Site prep is underway at 205 West Superior Street in River North for The Lake, a private social club on the southwest corner of Wells and Superior Streets. Foundation work was permitted back in November, but the site had remained idle after demolitions of the two structures previously at this location were completed last year.
