A caisson permit application has been submitted for a mixed-use development at 227 W Chicago Avenue in River North. Located on the northernmost edge of the neighborhood, the new structure will replace a large vacant lot that once held a small commercial building, most recently occupied by a Walmart Express until 2016.
The original two-story building, constructed in 1904 and most recently the home of the United Electrical Workers union from 1948 through 2023, was converted to apartments by ZSD Corp. They received a permit from the City of Chicago on May 15 of last year to renovate the building into 22 dwelling units and to add an addition above the existing structure.
Construction permits have been issued to erect a pair of two-story plus basement, two-unit residential buildings at 2730 and 3732 West Adams Street in Garfield Park. Both permits were issued on May 16th, both applications are dated April 8th, and each carries a reported construction cost of $350,000.
Plans have been revealed for a mixed-use development at 5301 S State Street in Washington Park. Located at the corner of E 53rd Street, the two-building proposal will replace a large vacant lot across from the XS Tennis and Education Foundation campus. The foundation is partnering with Center Court Development LLC to bring the project to life.
Construction of a sales center for the 1325 West Fulton condominium development has begun on the southeast corner of Ada and Fulton Streets in the Fulton Market District. The construction permit was issued April 22 for the single-story edifice, which Sulo Development will use to market their proposed condominiums in the first of three towers at the site.
