Chicago Plan Commission Approves North Union Development in Near North Side

The Chicago Plan Commission has approved the 8.1-acre North Union megadevelopment in the Near North Side. Generally bounded by the CTA Brown Line tracks and W Oak Street, W Chestnut Street, and N Wells Street, the North Union site will spread across eight acres. Planned by JDL Development, the project site is currently occupied by one or two story buildings, parking lots and an athletic field, all part of the Moody Bible Institute campus. The entire plan reserves 9.4 acres for Moody Bible Institute while turning over the remaining 8.1 acres over to JDL.

Construction Complete at City Club Apartments in The Loop

Construction has concluded for City Club Apartments MDA Phase II, a seven-story mixed-use building at 60 E Benton Place in The Loop. The project serves as an addition to City Club Apartments‘ existing 24-story tower, spearheaded by the rental chain’s CEO Jonathan Holtzman. At just under 100 feet to its pinnacle, the connected structure will house a mix of ground-floor retail and 81 apartments.

The project has been planned by FLATS LLC, a subsidiary of Cedar Street Companies, in partnership with Origin Investments. Previously a vacant lot, the site lies within a federal opportunity zone that grants developers tax incentives for developing in economically distressed areas.
