Lincoln Park CVS being demolished for six new condos at 405 West Armitage Avenue

A single-story former CVS store at Lincoln Avenue, Armitage Avenue, and Sedgwick Street in Lincoln Park is being demolished as we speak, with Precision Excavation doing the honors. They received a demolition permit from the City of Chicago on August 22. Barrett Homes will soon begin construction here on a four-story, six-unit condominium development to be addressed as 405 West Armitage Avenue. The new building will replace the lost CVS retail space with two retail spaces: one will have entry at 403 West Armitage, and the other at 1952 North Sedgwick.

Demolition is underway of school buildings at 1310 South Ashland Avenue

Demolition is underway on an L-shaped school building at 1310 South Ashland Avenue on the city’s Near West Side. The former home of Moses Montefiore School until 2016, and later Urban Prairie Waldorf School until its closing in June, the one- and two-story buildings are being cleared away to create space for a new residential development. The demo permit for the school was issued on August 21, with Heneghan Wrecking carrying out demo work.

Bally’s Chicago Casino gets four demolition permits for Chicago Tribune Freedom Center

Four demolition permits were issued by the City of Chicago Monday for 651 West Chicago Avenue, or what used to be the Chicago Tribune Freedom Center. This is the second phase of demolitions making space for Bally’s Chicago Casino, after a single-story metal building at 700 West Erie was demolished earlier this month. Brandenburg Industrial Services is the demolition contractor for the casino project.

Demolition has begun for Bally’s Chicago Casino

The first demolition to make way for the new Bally’s Chicago Casino has begun along the Chicago River in West Town. The City of Chicago issued a demo permit for 700 West Erie Street on August 2, with Brandenburg Industrial Service Company serving as the demolition contractor. A single-story metal building that was most recently the home of a U-Haul rental facility, it sits on the southwest corner of the development site, at the intersection of Erie and Halsted.

400 North Elizabeth demolition

400 North Elizabeth reduced to rubble; 33-story apartment tower on the way

Atlas Industries has most of the demolition work done at 400 North Elizabeth Street in the Fulton Market District, with little else left to do but clear rubble from the site. Two buildings on this property have now been torn down, with 400 North Elizabeth receiving a demo permit on June 6 of this year, and 401 West Ogden getting its walking papers on June 24. Coming soon will be a 33-story residential tower from Weldon Development Group and Mark Goodman & Associates, followed shortly thereafter by a 31-story building.
