City Council Approves Redevelopment At 2653 N Clark Street In Lincoln Park

The Chicago City Council has approved the redevelopment and land-use agreement for The Covent Hotel mixed-use renovation at 2653 N Clark Street in Lincoln Park. Located on the corner with W Drummond Place just a few blocks from the lake, the proposal would reconvert the Single Room Occupancy (SRO) property into affordable studios led by the National Historic Preservation (NHP) Foundation. The approval would also allow for city funds to be distributed to NHP to fulfill the conversion that has been in the works since 2019.

New Permits Issued for 1719 N Burling Street in Lincoln Park

A permit was issued yesterday for new construction of a four-story residential building at 1719 N Burling Street in the Lincoln Park neighborhood. The owner is listed as 1719-21 Burling LLC, and the current plans indicate this project will yield a total of eight dwelling units. This will be an elevator building, and will also include a basement, a rooftop deck, as well as a detached eight-car garage. The development will replace a previous structure on the site which according to records, was approved for demolition in July 2021.

Demo Permits issued for 1844 N Maud Avenue in Lincoln Park

A demolition permit was issued last week to remove a three-story masonry residence located at 1844 N Maud Avenue in the Lincoln Park neighborhood. The permit’s owner has been listed as 1840-44 N Maud LLC. Plans have been submitted for a three-story single-family residence with a basement. The structure will have a rooftop deck, a rear deck, and an attached two-car garage at the rear. This garage will also have its own rooftop deck.

“Romanticism to Ruin” Exhibit at Wrightwood 659 in Lincoln Park

This month a special exhibit will be available in Lincoln Park to curious Chicagoans. The Wrightwood 659 is presenting Romanticism to Ruin: Two Lost Works of Sullivan & Wright. This is a unique opportunity to view a dual exhibition that highlights two long-gone masterpieces: Louis H. Sullivan’s innovative Garrick Theatre in Chicago and Frank Lloyd Wright’s unprecedented Larkin Building, in Buffalo, New York.

2317 N Clark Street Reaches Third Floor in Lincoln Park

Since YIMBY’s October update, construction has added another floor of a four-story mixed-use development at 2317 N Clark Street in Lincoln Park. Developer 2300 N Clark LLC is planning for 2,228 square feet of ground-level retail with 73 feet of frontage and windows also along the alley.

New Addition for Edith Spurlock Sampson Apartments Rises at 2700 N Sheffield Avenue in Lincoln Park

Structural work can be seen rising for the new six-story addition at Edith Spurlock Apartments in Lincoln Park. This new 85-foot-tall structure will be nestled between the complex’s two existing buildings, which are undergoing renovation as part of the development. Residing under the address 2700 N Sheffield Avenue, the added segment will provide an additional 80 residential units. The existing structures will also add 11 new units as part of the renovations. Altogether, there will be 485 apartments on the Edith Spurlock Apartment Grounds once all the work is complete. The Chicago Housing Authority (CHA) and Pirhl are co-developers behind the construction and renovation efforts, while RATIO is the architect.

A demolition permit was issued last week for a one-story masonry residence, along with a two-story frame coach house located at 1917 N Orchard Street in the Lincoln Park neighborhood. The permit’s owner has been listed as Savane Properties, Inc. As of now, no plans appear to have been submitted to upgrade any of the zoning designations for this property and there is currently no information on any future constructions at the site.

Preliminary Landmark Status Approved For Ludlow Typograph Building In Lincoln Park

The Commission on Chicago Landmarks has approved preliminary landmark status for the Ludlow Typograph Building at 2032 N Clybourn Avenue in Lincoln Park. Located near the Lincoln Yards mega-development, the 1913 building will be rehabilitated into a mixed-use property by developer Annexation LLC, who recently bought the building for $15 million.

The owner is listed as 2640 N Bosworth LLC, and the current plans indicate this project will yield four total dwelling units with balconies and rear porches accessible by a staircase. The structure will also have a basement, rooftop enclosure, as well as a four-car garage. The development will replace a previous structure on the site.
