Renovation work is progressing for 10 and 120 S Riverside Plaza, two adjacent office buildings located along the west bank of the Chicago River in West Loop Gate. These two 21-story structures encompass a total of 1.4 million square feet and offer 37,000-square-foot floor plates. With both buildings originally designed by SOM, 10 S Riverside Plaza was constructed in 1965, while 120 S Riverside Plaza was completed in 1967.

Clinton Street Entrance Reopens At Union Station

The long shuttered Union Station entrance along S Clinton Street has reopened ahead of extensive work around the structure. Located at 225 S Canal Street near the river, the massive station house has seen a long string of renovations as Amtrak works on restoring one of the nation’s busiest hubs. The entrance itself reopened earlier this week after being closed for over 40 years, finally providing western access to the building.

City Council Approves Landmark Designation For The Warehouse

The Chicago City Council has approved the full landmark designation for The Warehouse at 204-208 S Jefferson Street in West Loop Gate. Located near the intersection with W Adams Street, the small building recently received its final landmark recommendation from the Commission on Chicago Landmarks earlier this month after a multi-week battle supported by locals. With its full landmark status granted, the structure is now protected from demolition and will eventually receive a plaque outside.

Zoning Fully Approved For Mixed-Use Development In West Loop Gate

Zoning has been fully approved for the mixed-use development at 135 N Des Plaines Street in West Loop Gate. Located on the southeast corner with W Randolph Street just a block away from the highway, the upcoming proposal will replace a surface parking lot and its small footprint as the neighborhood continues to fill in long-term gaps. Developer Rogers Park Holdings LLC is working with local firm Axios Architects & Consultants on the small building which was announced earlier this year.
