Rush Plans Outpatient Center At 1601 N Harlem Avenue In Galewood

Updated plans have been announced for a new healthcare facility at 1601 N Harlem Avenue in the Galewood sub-neighborhood of Austin. Located on the northeastern corner of the intersection with W North Avenue near Lindberg Park, the new structure will replace a currently vacant lot that once held a large Sears store which was demolished in October of 2020. Now Rush Oak Park Hospital, part of the Rush Hospital system, has presented updated plans for their new outpatient center along with the site’s owner Novak Construction.

Renderings have been revealed for the proposed skybridge and partial medical conversion of the hotel at 633 N Saint Clair Street in Streeterville. Located on the southeast corner with E Erie Street, the existing 29-story tower is split between a hotel and office space above. Northwestern Memorial Healthcare (NMHC) is behind the plans as it looks to expand its footprint in the neighborhood, with Gensler serving as the architect for the project.

Groundbreaking Announced For Bronzeville Lakefront Megadevelopment

An anticipated groundbreaking date has been announced for the first phase of the Bronzeville Lakefront megadevelopment in Bronzeville. Located on the massive former Michael Reese Hospital site, the multi-phase project is the first in the nation to have a 50 percent Black development team. That team is operating under the name GRIT Chicago LLC and comprises Farpoint Development, Loop Capital, Draper & Kramer, Chicago Neighborhood Initiatives, McLaurin Development and the Bronzeville Community Development Partnership.

Plan Commission Approves UChicago Cancer Center In Hyde Park

The Chicago Plan Commission has approved the new Cancer Center at 5654 S Drexel Avenue on the University of Chicago campus in Hyde Park. Located north of the intersection with E 57th Street, the new center will replace one of the last remaining open spaces occupied by a parking lot within the existing hospital complex. Proposed by the university and designed by local firm CannonDesign, the project builds on the recently started Harper Court Phase 2 nearby as the institution continues to grow its medical and life sciences departments.

UChicago Medicine is making progress in its efforts to construct a new free-standing cancer center in Hyde Park. The proposed facility, which was announced in February 2022, has undergone significant changes since then, including an increase in size and cost. The revised proposal now includes a total area of 575,000 square feet and an estimated cost of $815 million, up from the original estimates of $633 million and 500,000 square feet.
