Hyde Park Labs Now Topped Out at Hyde Park’s Harper Court Complex

Construction has topped out for Hyde Park Labs, a 13-story, 215-foot-tall mixed-use development located at 5201 S Harper Avenue within Hyde Park’s Harper Court Complex. Primarily catering to companies focused on STEM fields, this collaborative venture between Beacon Capital Partners, Trammell Crow Company, and The University of Chicago will provide 302,000 square feet of space with a total investment of $225 million. Alongside the lab and office areas, the building will also feature 4,000 square feet allocated for retail and 40,000 square feet for amenities.

Excavation work continues to progress for the new University of Chicago Cancer Center at 5654 S Drexel Avenue in Hyde Park. Developed by the University of Chicago and UChicago Medicine, the eight-story project is situated at the intersection of S Drexel Avenue and E 57th Street, replacing one of the last vacant lots on the university’s campus.

Steel is making its way up Hyde Park Labs, a 13-story building within the Harper Court Complex in Hyde Park. Ranking 17th in our countdown, this 215-feet-tall mixed-use development, located at 5201 S Harper Avenue, is a collaboration between The University of Chicago, Trammell Crow Company, and Beacon Capital Partners. Having topped out its core earlier this year, the $225 million project will offer 302,000 square feet of space. The structure is primarily intended for STEM-focused companies and includes lab and office areas, as well as 4,000 square feet designated for retail and various tenant amenities.

UChicago Cancer Center Takes 20th Spot In Countdown

Claiming the 20th spot in our year-end countdown is the new University of Chicago Cancer Center at 5654 S Drexel Avenue within the UChicago campus in Hyde Park. Located on the intersection with E 57th Street and replacing one of the last vacant lots in the campus, the project broke ground back in October. The university and UChicago Medicine are developing the expansion which is being designed by local firm CannonDesign.

The central core for Harper Court Phase II at 5201 S Harper Avenue in Hyde Park has reached its full height. Named “Hyde Park Labs,” this 13-story mixed-use development is a collaboration between The University of Chicago, Trammell Crow Company, and Beacon Capital Partners. It will span 302,000 square feet and focus its programming lab and office spaces for STEM-focused companies. It will also include 4,000 square feet of retail and a multitude of tenant amenites. A part of the $225 million building will be dedicated to The University of Chicago’s engineering and quantum research.

Bound by E 57th Street to the south and an existing parking garage to the west, the new building replaces one of the last vacant areas currently used as a parking lot. The Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board has approved the new medical building at 5654 S Drexel Avenue within the University of Chicago in Hyde Park. Sitting on the intersection with E 57th Street and replacing a surface parking lot, the new building will be the first free-standing cancer pavilion in the city. The Chicago Plan Commission has approved the new Cancer Center at 5654 S Drexel Avenue on the University of Chicago campus in Hyde Park. Located north of the intersection with E 57th Street, the new center will replace one of the last remaining open spaces occupied by a parking lot within the existing hospital complex. Proposed by the university and designed by local firm CannonDesign, the project builds on the recently started Harper Court Phase 2 nearby as the institution continues to grow its medical and life sciences departments.

UChicago Medicine Reveals Expanded Plans for Cancer Center in Chicago’s South Side

UChicago Medicine is making progress in its efforts to construct a new free-standing cancer center in Hyde Park. The proposed facility, which was announced in February 2022, has undergone significant changes since then, including an increase in size and cost. The revised proposal now includes a total area of 575,000 square feet and an estimated cost of $815 million, up from the original estimates of $633 million and 500,000 square feet.

Updated Plans Revealed for Harper Courts Phase 2 in Hyde Park

The University of Chicago and developers Beacon Capital Partners and Trammell Crow have unveiled the new designs and scope of Harper Courts Phase 2 in Hyde Park. The proposed 13-story medical research office building will support nearly 300,000 square feet of lab space, one-sixth of which will be set aside for the University of Chicago. The contained block lies just west of the railroad tracks, bound by E 52nd Street to the north, S Lake Park Avenue to the east, E 53rd Street to the south, and S Harper Avenue to the west.
