A pair of tower crane permits have been added to the Chicago Data Portal this week. On Tuesday April 8, a permit showed up for 626 South Wabash Avenue in the South Loop, where activity got started late last month on a residential building from DAC Developments. One day later, on April 9, a permit appeared for Bally’s Casino, addressed to 705 West Chicago Avenue in River West.
Five residential units have been permitted to replace an 1890s home at 1942 North Orchard Street in Lincoln Park. The previous structure was torn down last fall, with the site marketed as a redevelopment opportunity. After demolition, the double lot sold in January for $4.2 million to Swan Property Development of Orland Park, who will now erect a four-story with basement building here.
Details have been revealed for a new residential development at 1948 W Peterson Avenue in West Ridge. Sitting on the corner with N Winchester Avenue and across the street from Rosehill Cemetery, the project will replace a long-vacant lot occasionally used for parking and storage. Efforts are being led by local developer Bob Loquercio.
The first week of April 2025 has already been a month of milestones at 400 Lake Shore in the Near North Side’s Streeterville neighborhood. Over the weekend, the construction team jumped the tower crane, adding six new sections to extend its height. On Monday, the first panels of glass, the ones visible Sunday inside the lower few floors of the tower, were installed on the north façade of the third level above ground.
A demolition permit was issued by the city to demolish a one-story commercial building and greenhouses at 5338 South Mason Avenue in the Garfield Ridge neighborhood near Midway Airport. According to the permit, which was issued on April 4, All Concrete Contractors of Bridgeview is named as the demo contractor, at a reported cost of $10,000.
