City Council Approves Kitchen Incubator In Washington Park

The Chicago City Council has approved the commercial project at 5201 S Wabash Avenue in Washington Park. Located just north of the intersection with E 51st Street, the project is part of a 2021 Invest South/West RFP and has been in the works since YIMBY first reported on it in early 2022. This winning proposal comes to us from developer Urban Equities and is designed by local firms TnS Studio and SmithGroup with whom YIMBY had the pleasure of speaking with last summer on the proposal.

Plan Commission Approved Team Pioneros In Humboldt Park

The Chicago Plan Commission has approved the mixed-use development at 4000 W North Avenue in Humboldt Park. Dubbed Team Pioneros, the project will restore the existing Pioneer Bank building on the corner with N Pulaski Road and construct a new structure behind it. The colorful proposal is also a winner of the city’s Invest South/West initiative and is being led by Park Row Development as well as local architecture firm JGMA, who will eventually call the property home when the firm moves its current offices.

Building Permits Issued For Invest South/West Project In Auburn Gresham

Building permits have been issued for one of the first group of buildings from the mayor’s Invest South/West initiative at 757 and 838 W 79th Street in Auburn Gresham. Located predominantly around the intersection with S Halsted Street, the two-structure project will replace two vacant lots, one of which has sat empty for over 10 years. Developer Evergreen Imagine is working with the award-winning local firm Ross Barney Architects and Nia Architects on the design.

5200 W Chicago Avenue Breaks Ground in Austin

Construction has broken ground for 5200 W Chicago Avenue in Austin. The Oak Park Regional Housing Center and Heartland Housing Alliance have partnered to breathe new life into the historic Laramie State Bank building. The building is part of a larger initiative known as INVEST South/West. The new measures hope to focus the resources of multiple city departments, as well as outside community organizations and corporate/philanthropic partners, toward 12 commercial corridors within 10 different south and west side neighborhoods.

Ground Breaks on Englewood Connect, a Culinary Food Hub at 6204 S Green Street

On Tuesday, the Mayor’s Office released a statement following the groundbreaking of the much anticipated Englewood Connect, a $13.9 million culinary food hub located at 6204 S Green Street in Englewood. Plans include restoring and repurposing the landmark Engine Co. 84 firehouse as a commercial kitchen and event space in the heart of the Englewood neighborhood to create a centralized gathering hub for community members. Englewood Connect is part of the broader INVEST South/West project which aims to revitalize 10 West and South side community areas. Mayor Lightfoot is leveraging nearly $2 billion in public and private investment commitments to fund these projects.
