New Round Of Winners Announced For The Invest South/West Initiative

Three new winners of the city’s Invest South/West initiative have been announced by the mayor in Humboldt Park and South Shore. The three winners are located at 3601 W Chicago Avenue and 4000 W North Avenue in 2908 E 79th Street in South Shore. All together the three proposals represent a $126 million investment in the neighborhoods aimed at increasing the quality of life, adding equitable affordable housing while joining a list of seven past winners of the two-year-old program that are set to break ground soon.

Stabilization Work Ordered For Laramie State Bank Building In Austin

Stabilization work has been ordered on the Laramie State Bank Building located at 5200 W Chicago Avenue in Austin. As a part of one of the Invest South/West sites, the bank will see a new life as an incubator, cafe, and blues music museum as work progresses over the coming years. Sitting on the northwest corner of the intersection with N Laramie Avenue, the bank has been vacant for nearly a decade and is in dire need of work to assure its long-term feasibility.

Commission On Chicago Landmarks Proceeds With Warner House Nomination In Austin

The Commission on Chicago Landmarks has decided to move forward with pursuing landmark status for the Seth Warner house located at 631 N Central Avenue in Austin. The house, just north of the corner with W Ohio Street, was recently nominated by Preservation Chicago along with a handful of other sites last month and is moving ahead with pursuing the status. The commission hopes that its proximity to the Invest South/West projects in Austin will help gather momentum in the restoration and preservation of the home.

Commission on Chicago Landmarks Approves Rehab Of 6204 S Green Street in Englewood

The Commission on Chicago Landmarks has approved the rehabilitation of the old Engine Company 84, Truck 51 firehouse at 6204 S Green Street in Englewood. Led by developer Englewood Connect LLC, the renovation is the first phase of the larger 4.28-acre project hoping to bring a healthy lifestyle hub to the neighborhood near the existing Whole Foods. Designers Skidmore, Owings & Merrill took into consideration the historical design of the building many in the Fire Department refer to as ‘The Castle’.

Developer Finishes Work On Office Development At 1334 N Kostner Avenue In Humboldt Park

Final touches begin to take shape on the first phase of a new office development at 1334 N Kostner Avenue in Humboldt Park. Dubbed The Terminal, the project is the redevelopment of the old Pyle National Company manufacturing plant which had sat mostly dormant for many years, and is now being developed by the IBT Group along with Chicago businessman Joe Mansueto. The design is being led by local firm RATIO Design along with one of the nation’s leading preservation specialists MacRostie Historic Advisors.
