Initial Construction Permits Issued for Obama Presidential Library

Several caisson and site-clearing permits were issued this week for the Obama Presidential Center, a multi-building educational and cultural center planned by The Obama Foundation. Located in the Hyde Park neighborhood and set to occupy a portion of Jackson Park, the complex will contain three main buildings around a central plaza space. This plaza area will be able to host planned events and public artwork.

Renovation Prep Work Progresses at Aon Center Plaza in New Eastside

Preliminary site work can be seen moving ahead for Aon Center‘s plaza renovation, situated at 200 E Randolph Street in New Eastside. The development will serve as revitalized public space and entryway to the 1,136-foot-tall Aon Center, which was originally designed by Edward Durell Stone and The Perkins and Will partnership and completed in 1974. Aon Center’s owner 601W Companies is overseeing the transformation, expected to cost roughly $6.5 million to complete.

Navy Pier Flyover Phase 1

Final Touches Remain for The Chicago River Section of Navy Pier Flyover

Finishing touches are underway for Navy Pier Flyover, a one-third mile long elevated path meant to improve pedestrian and bike access around the mouth of the Chicago River. Commissioned by the Chicago Department of Transportation, the $64 million infrastructure project has been divided into three stages. The two already-completed stages connect the river to Ohio Street Beach, while the remaining third phase will integrate with Outer Drive Bridge.
