Community Development Commission Approves Mixed-Use Development At 201 S Kedzie Avenue In East Garfield Park

The Community Development Commission has approved the land sale and Tax Increment Financing (TIF) funds for the affordable mixed-use development at 201 S Kedzie Avenue in East Garfield Park. Going by the name ‘Garfield Green’, the two-site project located on the intersection with S Fifth Avenue recently received approval from both the plan commission and city council. Developer Preservation of Affordable Housing won the C40 Reinventing Cities competition in 2018 with structures designed by Perkins + Will and Nia Architects

TIF Approved For Affordable Development At 1805 N Hamlin Avenue In Logan Square

The Community Development Commission has approved Tax Increment Financing (TIF) funds for a new residential development at 1805 N Hamlin Avenue in Logan Square. Dubbed ‘Encuentro Square’ or meet-up square, is being developed by the Latin United Community Housing Association (LUCHA) with Canopy Architecture and Site Design Group serving as the designers for the multi-building project that was announced last year.

The City of Chicago and Mayor Lori Lightfoot are celebrating two years of the Invest South/West initiative across the city. The program launched in 2019 with $750 million in public funding for projects across 12 commercial corridors in 10 south- and west-side communities aimed at creating jobs, improving safety, and providing housing options. With many winners announced in the last two years, the projects have also spurred plenty of private developments in areas being reinvigorated by the program.

TIF Money Approved For Barbara Jean Wright Apartments Renovation In Near West Side

The Chicago Community Development Commission has approved the funding for an extensive renovation of the Barbara Jean Wright Apartments located at 1354 S Morgan Street in the Near West Side. The existing development is bound by W Maxwell Street to the north, S Morgan Street to the east, and W 14th Place to the south, along with two other housing projects to the west. Developer Jonathan Rose Companies is heading the effort who has managed over $1.8 billion in properties and recently broke into the Chicago market.

City Council Approves Affordable Housing Project In North Lawndale

The Chicago City Council has approved an affordable mixed-use development at 3401 W Ogden Avenue in North Lawndale. Located on the southwest corner with S Homan Avenue, the new building replaces an existing flat parking lot used by the nearby police station. Dubbed ‘Grace Manor’ the project is the product of a developer venture between East Lake Management and Jerusalem CDC with local architecture firm JGMA as the designer.
