Work Resumes On 1000M , Countdown’s Fourth Tallest Development

Resuming into the fourth spot of the 2021 Chicago YIMBY’s year-end countdown is 1000 S Michigan Avenue otherwise known as 1000M in the South Loop. Topping out at a revised 805 feet tall, the tower is designed by prolific architect Helmut Jahn whose work includes the Thompson Center and passed away earlier this year in the suburbs. Developers Time Equities and JK Equities partnered on the skyscraper which recently secured financing to resume construction after stopping work early in the pandemic.

The Reed Rises To The 11th Spot In Year-End Countdown

The quickly rising tower dubbed ‘The Reed’ at 234 W Polk Street in the South Loop takes the 11th place in 2021’s year-end countdown. The 41-story residential structure will rise 447 feet tall on the banks of the Chicago River as part of the greater Southbank development led by Lendlease and designed by Perkins + Will. The project joins ‘The Cooper’, an adjacent rental building which was the development’s first completed design.

Recently Commenced 1400 S Wabash Avenue Takes 13th Spot In Year-End Countdown

Number 13 in the countdown goes to a newly kicked-off high-rise at 1400 S Wabash Avenue in South Loop, set to rise 30 stories and 316 feet. Developer CMK Companies has planned a mixed-use scheme that will provide ground-floor mercantile space and 299 rental apartment units above. Replacing a formerly vacant lot, the tower will fill a major gap both at the pedestrian level and within the South Loop skyline.

Last week, a partial construction permit was approved for a new 30-story mixed-use tower at 1400 S Wabash Avenue in South Loop. The site of the project has long sat vacant as a former parking lot, with one of Chicago YIMBY’s earliest articles speculating on the developer plans. Now set to stand 305 feet to the roof and 316 feet to pinnacle, the glassy new tower will have a significant impact on South Loop’s steadily-densifying skyline.

Construction Permit Issued for Revised 1000M Tower in South Loop

A revised construction permit has been issued for 1000 S Michigan Avenue, the site of a 73-story residential tower that is now ready to resume construction. The development known as ‘1000M‘ is being developed by Time Equities and JK Equities in South Loop. Meanwhile, the building itself was designed by the late Helmet Jahn, which upon completion will be his tallest addition to the city (not accounting for a possible tower addition to Thompson Center).
