The Reed Surpasses Halfway Mark in South Loop

Construction has now passed the halfway mark for a 41-story residential building known as The Reed, located at 234 W Polk Street in South Loop. Developed by Lendlease, the building is the second of four structures in a masterplan known as Southbank. Lendlease’s plans for the structure include 224 rental apartments and 216 condominiums, for a total of 440 on-site units. The rental portion will occupy the ninth through 22nd floors, while the remaining floors above will be designated for the condominiums.

Foundation Permits Issued for 633 S LaSalle Street in Printer’s Row

This week, foundation permits were issued for an 18-story co-living development at 633 S LaSalle Street in South Loop‘s Printer’s Row District. The Collective, a London-based developer, is behind the 162,000-square-foot project, which will house 117 apartments with a total of 381 beds.

Core Rises for 1000M Tower in South Loop

This week, YIMBY stopped by the rising core at 1000M, currently Chicago’s fourth tallest construction project. Located at 1000 S Michigan Avenue just across from Grant Park, this 788-foot-tall, 73-story residential tower is set to house a total of 738 rental units. The developer trio of JK Equities, Time Equities, and Oak Capitals had originally planned 506 condominiums, but ultimately pivoted due to the city’s booming apartment market. The skyscraper resumed construction following a nearly two-year hiatus and a $304.5 million loan from Goldman Sachs and Deutsche Bank.

Crane Goes Up for 1400 S Wabash Avenue in South Loop

Crane assembly can be seen for the 30-story high rise planned at 1400 S Wabash Avenue in South Loop, replacing a long-empty vacant lot. As of now, permits have been issued for the foundation, tower crane, and the superstructure up to the fourth floor.

Structural work has now passed the ninth floor for the 41-story residential tower known as The Reed, located directly north of River City Apartments in South Loop. Under the address 234 W Polk Street, this new high rise is part of a large master plan known as Southbank. With Lendlease as the developer, this scheme includes the completed development “The Cooper” adjacently west, alongside a host of new public park spaces. Future plans include a pair of towers roughly the same height as The Reed, connected by a podium at their base.

1400 S Wabash Gets Ready to Rise in South Loop

Foundation work is now underway for a 30-story mixed-use high rise at 1400 S Wabash Avenue in South Loop. The developer CMK Companies plans for 299 total units atop ground-level retail. Replacing a long-vacant lot, the 316-foot-tall structure is poised to contribute to South Loop’s expanding high rise cluster.

Full Building Permit Issued for 1000M Tower in South Loop

The full building permit has finally been issued for 1000 S Michigan Avenue. As previously reported, the building will be a 73-story residential development, known affectionately as ‘1000M‘, and is being developed by Time Equities and JK Equities in South Loop. The building itself was designed by the late Helmut Jahn and plans indicate 738 total dwelling units, along with 320 on-site parking spaces. The units will be split into four tiers of design and will vary in size and amenities as the floors ascend. Future residents will have access to nearly 75,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor space.

Updated Renderings Revealed For Mixed-Use Development At 630 S Wabash Avenue In South Loop

Updated renderings have been revealed for a mixed-use development at 630 S Wabash Avenue in the South Loop. The project which was revealed late 2021 is located just south of the intersection with E Harrison Street replacing a vacant lot with a new high-rise. Leading the concept are developing partners Melrose Ascension Capital and DAC Developments who are working with local architecture firm Antunovich Associates on the tower’s design.

1000M Tower Gears Up to Rise in South Loop

Over this past weekend near the northern edge of South Loop, an army of concrete trucks could be seen pouring the foundation of Chicago’s fourth tallest construction project. Known as 1000M after its 1000 S Michigan Avenue address, this 73-story residential skyscraper will rise 805 feet and house 738 rental apartment units.

Work Resumes On 1000M , Countdown’s Fourth Tallest Development

Resuming into the fourth spot of the 2021 Chicago YIMBY’s year-end countdown is 1000 S Michigan Avenue otherwise known as 1000M in the South Loop. Topping out at a revised 805 feet tall, the tower is designed by prolific architect Helmut Jahn whose work includes the Thompson Center and passed away earlier this year in the suburbs. Developers Time Equities and JK Equities partnered on the skyscraper which recently secured financing to resume construction after stopping work early in the pandemic.
