The City of Chicago has issued a permit for a Liebherr 316 EC-H 12 Litronic tower crane for the continued construction at 1630 South Wabash Avenue in the South Loop. CMK Properties has three apartment projects in the works on a two-block segment of Wabash, and it looks like 1630 will be the next one to restart. The permit became reality yesterday, March 7.
The City of Chicago has issued a tower crane permit for a alrge-scale expansion and renovation at the Shedd Aquarium. The permit application was filed on October 9 of last year, and issued on February 21. Pepper Construction is both the general contractor and concrete contractor here, so they’ll be in charge of the crane’s operation. This is the second renovation project to get a tower crane in Chicago this year, joining the Thompson Center transformation into Google offices.
Plans have been announced for the residential conversion of the loft building at 1006 S Michigan Avenue in the South Loop. Located just north of the intersection with E 11th Street, the small building sits under the shadow of the recently completed 1000M which hangs above the to the north.
Renderings have been revealed for a pair of upcoming South Loop projects that have been in the works for a few years. Located at 1630, 1700, and 1730 S Wabash Avenue, we’ve only seen elevations of one of these as the others are set to rise as-of-right. All three proposals are being led by CMK Companies, who updated their site with the images.
The first few levels of exterior glass have been installed on 1717 Michigan, the South Loop residential building from CMK Companies formerly known as 1723 South Michigan. The construction site is also notable for what it doesn’t have: a tower crane. That’s been taken down now that the building is topped out. The construction hoist at the south end of the structure will do the rest of the heavy lifting from here on out.
