Construction is rapidly rising for a new 10-story mixed-use development known as 43Green, situated at 4308 S Calumet Avenue in Bronzeville. Co-developers P3 Markets and The Habitat Company have planned 5,000 square feet of retail and a total of 99 apartments on the upper floors. Size-wise, the structure will stand at a pinnacle height of 106 feet, while spanning just over 96,000 square feet.

Bill Introduced Would Create Bronzeville National Heritage Area

A bill in 2021 was introduced to create a new national heritage area in Bronzeville dedicated to its significance in the nation’s culture. The two bills H.R. 670 and S.511 are now being reviewed by a subcommittee on National Parks before being voted on by the House and senate respectively. The bills would create the Bronzeville-Black Metropolis National Heritage Area, becoming one of three in the state and are backed by US Representative Bobby Rush, who recently announced won’t be seeking a 16th term, and Senator Dick Durbin.

Carman Hall Renovation Makes Progress at Illinois Institute of Technology in Bronzeville

Exterior renovation can be seen making headway at Carman Hall, located at 60 E 32nd Street within the Illinois Institute of Technology campus in Bronzeville. Originally designed by the famed German architect Ludgwig Mies van Der Rohe, the nine-story dormitory building was completed in 1955. Recently, the midcentury residential building sat unused and in need of repair.
