Updated details and rendering have been revealed for the mixed-use development at 641 E 47th Street in Bronzeville. Located west of the intersection with S Langley Avenue, we first covered the proposal back in November of last year as it received City Council approval. Now it has returned with a slightly updated program and look, as it aims to replace a one-story commercial building owned and operated by the project’s developer. That would be Yasmin Curtis who runs the Two Fish Crab Shack restaurant that occupies it who selected local architects Future Firm for the design.
The upcoming bills set forward to designate a large portion of the South Side predominantly around Bronzeville as a National Heritage Area will now be signed by President Biden. The two bills H.R. 670 and S.511, which we covered in greater detail exactly a year ago as they were introduced for review by a subcommittee of the National Parks Service, received the necessary legislative votes and will now make their way to the president’s desk. The bills were introduced by US Representative Bobby Rush and Senator Dick Durbin early last year.
The Chicago City Council has approved the rezoning for a mixed-use development at 641 E 47th Street in Bronzeville. Located just west of the intersection with S Langley Avenue, the new structure will replace a vacant lot and one-story commercial building, bringing additional density to a stretch of the neighborhood that has long suffered from disinvestment with plenty of empty lots nearby. The developer Two Fish Crab Shack restaurant is also the owner of the building being demolished, and is working with local architects Future Firm on its design.
A permit was issued this week for a new five-story mixed-use building located at 451 E Pershing Road in the Bronzeville neighborhood. The owner on the permit is listed as DOM Acquisition LLC. According to records, the site was originally meant to be home to a new CIBC branch. The property has a B3-3 zoning and plans indicate that the construction will include a total of 32 dwelling units. The first floor will house retail space as well as an attached 32-vehicle garage accessible on the ground floor. This will be an elevator building and will include a penthouse on the top floor.
