The City of Chicago’s Invest South/West Initiative has selected winners for the next four RFP sites in Chicago. Located in four neighborhoods, the sites are located in South Chicago, North Lawndale, Bronzeville, and New City.
Construction permits have been issued for a three-story residential building at Bronzeville’s 4635 S Indiana Avenue. Filed under the owner Jacek Bochaczyk, the three-unit project will come with a rear open deck spanning its full height. As of now, the site is occupied by a vacant grass plot that lies just north of the intersection between Indiana Avenue and 47th Street Station.
Construction permits have been issued for a new annex addition to the Wendell Phillips High School, located at 244 E Pershing Road in Bronzeville. Planned by the Public Building Commission of Chicago, the building will mainly serve as a new gymnasium, and will replace an existing surface parking lot on the northeast corner of the campus. The existing structures on the campus include a landmarked three-story brick building from 1904, as well as other two buildings built in 1937 and 1944.
The Chicago City Council has approved the Bronzeville Lakefront Megadevelopment planned for the former Michael Reese Hospital site in Bronzeville. The 71-acre site spans from E 26th Street to E 31 Street north to south, and from S Martin Luther King Drive to S Lake Park Avenue west to east respectively. The plan comes from a development team called GRIT Chicago, composed of Farpoint Development, Loop Capital, Draper & Kramer, Chicago Neighborhood Initiatives, McLaurin Development, and Bronzeville Community Development Partnership.
Caisson permits were issued this Wednesday for the Park Boulevard Phase 3B development, filed under the address of 41 W 36th Street in Bronzeville. Developed by Stateway Associates LLC, the new construction will comprise of two five-story residential buildings. With the current phase at its southwest corner, the larger Park Boulevard development is set to replace the former Chicago Housing Authority Stateway Gardens housing projects. This masterplan includes a total of 1,316 units spread across both townhomes and apartments.
