Dead by Design #5: 7 South Dearborn Street in The Loop

Next in our “Dead by Design” series of cancelled Chicago supertowers, we have a 112-story tower originally planned for 7 S Dearborn Avenue in The Loop. The mixed-use skyscraper would have measured 1,567 feet to its roof, marking what would have been its official height. However, the structure would have also been accompanied by three 433-foot-tall antennas that would have brought its pinnacle height to 2,000 feet, just one foot higher than last week’s Miglin-Beitler Skyneedle.

Plans Revealed For Pui Tak School At 3118 S Canal Street In Bridgeport

Plans have been revealed for the new campus of the Pui Tak Christian School at 3118 S Canal Street in Bridgeport. Located just south of the intersection with W 31st Street, the new structure will replace two-existing buildings and a large surface parking lot in the quickly changing neighborhood. Being led by the school themselves, the internal team has partnered with both SOM and Wight and Company on the design of the upcoming facility after a multi-year $3.1 million fundraising campaign.

Community Development Commission Approves TIF funding and Land Sale at 6204 S Green Street in Englewood

The Community Development Commission has approved the land sale and Tax Increment Financing (TIF) funds for the affordable commercial-use development at 6204 S Green Street in Englewood. Going by the name ‘Englewood Connect’, the project site is a mix of vacant land and a historic firehouse. The developers on this project are McLaurin Development and Farpoint Development, which were chosen as the winner of the Englewood Invest South/West RFP in March 2021.

Potential Groundbreaking Date Announced For 400 N Lake Shore Drive In Streeterville

A potential groundbreaking date has been revealed for the residential towers at 400 N Lake Shore Drive in Streeterville. Located on the long vacant site of the failed Chicago Spire development, the two new towers would partially utilize the foundation hole left by the Spire and provide a cap to the Ogden Slip. Developer Related Midwest who is also behind The 78 near the South Loop is working with globally famous skyscraper firm Skidmore Owings & Merrill on the design, the firm responsible for a number of Chicago’s major skyscrapers.
