Plan Commission Approves Mixed-Use Development At 201 S Kedzie Avenue In East Garfield Park

The Chicago Plan Commission has approved plans for a mixed-use affordable housing development at 201 S Kedzie Avenue in East Garfield Park. Developer Preservation of Affordable Housing has partnered with Perkins+Will and Nia Architects to bring the two-building project to life as the winners of the C40 Reinventing Cities competition. The multi-phase development will replace two empty city-owned lots on the intersection with W 5th Avenue, across the street from Marshall Metro High School.

The Reed’s Core Rises above Grade at Southbank Megadevelopment

Since YIMBY’s last site prep update in early September, work on ‘The Reed‘ has made significant progress, with its core having now risen substantially above grade. Situated as 234 W Polk Street in South Loop, the 41-story residential building is being developed by Lendlease, and is the second installation in a seven-acre, four-building development known as Southbank. The first to be complete in this larger plan was The Cooper, located directly east and completed in 2018.

City Awards Construction Contract For New Green Line Station in Near West Side

The City of Chicago has awarded the construction contract for the new CTA Green Line Damen station at 2001 W Lake Street in the Near West Side. The stop has been long discussed for the growing west side area, and to serve major events at the nearby United Center which will allow for less vehicle bottlenecks on the surrounding city streets. The contract has been awarded to local construction company F.H. Paschen who has extensive experience with projects across Chicago airports, parks, schools, and transportation.

Foundation Work Begins for The Reed in South Loop

Caisson work has kicked off for The Reed, a 41-story residential tower along the river in South Loop. Situated at 234 W Polk Street, the 447-foot-tall structure serves as the second phase of a larger five-building development by Lendlease known as Southbank. This masterplan was formerly occupied by a large grass parcel that had long been vacant. Underneath this land were a series of freight tunnels that have undergone a sealing process over the past few months, thereby allowing The Reed to proceed.
