An extension has been granted and a redesign revealed for the mixed-use development at 130 N Franklin Street in The Loop. Located on the southwest corner with W Randolph Street, news of the proposal broke back in 2015 as a replacement of an existing empty lot along with a surface parking lot as well. Struggling to execute a tower on it, developer Tishman Speyer was granted an extension on their previous approval due to the last two years. The team at Tishman have been leading the efforts with local architecture firm Krueck Sexton Partners on all iterations of the design.
Construction and landscaping are quickly nearing completion for 1229 W Concord Place in West Town. The eight-story biosciences office building is part of Sterling Bay‘s much larger Lincoln Yards project, which covers 55 acres and is expected to bring new commercial, residential, and recreational spaces to the north branch of Chicago River.
The Chicago City Council has approved the mixed-use development dubbed NOMA across multiple lots in West Town. Consisting of a mix of adaptive re-use and new construction, the multi-phase project is generally bound by W Ohio Street to the north, W Hubbard Street to the south, N Halsted to the west, and N Des Plaines Street to the east. The team at Shapack Partners, who developed various West Loop properties, is partnering with architecture firms Chicago-based Eckenhoff Saunders and New York-based ODA on its design.
The final and tallest canceled entry in YIMBY’s “Dead by Design” series is the Chicago World Trade Center, a 210-story megatall office tower that was proposed for the current site of 300 N LaSalle Avenue in River North. Led by Stanley Raskow, this 2,500-foot-tall titan on the river (as shown in the model) had seen two previous iterations that were each 200 feet shorter.
