Over this past weekend near the northern edge of South Loop, an army of concrete trucks could be seen pouring the foundation of Chicago’s fourth tallest construction project. Known as 1000M after its 1000 S Michigan Avenue address, this 73-story residential skyscraper will rise 805 feet and house 738 rental apartment units.
Resuming into the fourth spot of the 2021 Chicago YIMBY’s year-end countdown is 1000 S Michigan Avenue otherwise known as 1000M in the South Loop. Topping out at a revised 805 feet tall, the tower is designed by prolific architect Helmut Jahn whose work includes the Thompson Center and passed away earlier this year in the suburbs. Developers Time Equities and JK Equities partnered on the skyscraper which recently secured financing to resume construction after stopping work early in the pandemic.
Construction is now complete for a seven-story residential building known as 1400 Monroe, located at 1400 W Monroe Street near the southwest corner of West Loop. The developer, JK Equities, has provided a total of 42 condominium units, ranging from two- to four-bedroom layouts. While the majority of the units are now sold, the remaining eight units are three-bedroom residences, ranging from 1,668 square feet to 1,958 square feet, and beginning at $1 million.
A revised construction permit has been issued for 1000 S Michigan Avenue, the site of a 73-story residential tower that is now ready to resume construction. The development known as ‘1000M‘ is being developed by Time Equities and JK Equities in South Loop. Meanwhile, the building itself was designed by the late Helmet Jahn, which upon completion will be his tallest addition to the city (not accounting for a possible tower addition to Thompson Center).
Cladding and window installation are wrapping up for 1400 Monroe Street, a seven-story residential building in West Loop by JK Equities Prior to construction, the property housed a three-story masonry building. The replacement, known as 1400 Monroe, is set to yield a total of 42 condominiums ranging between two- and four-bedroom residences. Prices begin at $800,000 for a one-bedroom, $1 million for a two-bedroom, and $2.5 million for a four-bedroom. Layout sizes, meanwhile, will fall between 1,242 and 3,887 square feet.
