4600 N Marine Drive Begins Ascent To 29th Place In Year-End Countdown

Taking the 29th spot in our year-end countdown is the residential development at 4600 N Marine Drive in Uptown. Sitting right across the street from Montrose Beach on the intersection with W Wilson Avenue, the project replaces a surface parking lot previously owned by Weiss Memorial Hospital after much controversy with locals. Developer Lincoln Property Company has been leading the charge of the Valerio Dewalt Train-designed building which broke ground recently.

St Regis Chicago Crowned as Countdown’s Tallest Active Construction Project

Wrapping up 2021’s year-end countdown is the 101-story St. Regis Chicago, anchored prominently at 375 E Wacker Drive along the Chicago River. Formerly known as Vista Tower and Wanda Vista Tower, this glassy Lakeshore East goliath has been planned by Magellan Development Group and will be managed under St. Regis Hotel and Resorts (subsidiary of Mariott). The height of the tower has been reported as several different figures, including 1,196 and 1,198 feet, though planning documents appear to indicate 1,191 feet as the most precise measurement from the Riverwalk to the architectural pinnacle.

One Chicago East Tower Races Towards Completion At Second Place In Countdown

Claiming the second place in the Chicago YIMBY 2021 countdown is the east tower of One Chicago, which tops out at 971 feet tall in River North. Part of One Chicago’s two-building complex is the west tower which claimed the sixth place in the countdown, the structures replaced a parking lot that once belonged to the Holy Name Cathedral across the street. Developer JDL teamed up with Hartshorne Plunkard Architecture and Goettsch Partners on the Art Deco-inspired skyscraper which also claims the eighth tallest spot in the skyline per CTBUH.
