166 N Aberdeen Street Places 20th in Chicago YIMBY’s Year-End Countdown

Coming in at spot number 20 in our year-end countdown of tallest construction projects is 166 N Aberdeen Street, a new mixed-use high rise near the western end of the Fulton Market District. Rising 241 feet to the top of its elevator overrun, the 21-story building has been planned by MCZ Development, and will provide ground-level retail and 224 total apartments. Replacing the now-demolished Fabbri Sausage Factory, the project recently broke ground and erected its tower crane.

Nearly Complete at 400 N Aberdeen Street, Fulton Labs Ranks as Chicago’s 22nd Tallest Construction Project

Coming in at 22nd in Chicago YIMBY’s year-end countdown is the 16-story Fulton Labs at 400 N Aberdeen Street, located near the northern edge of West Loop’s Fulton Market District. At a height of 242 feet, the nearly completed life and health sciences office building is being developed by Trammell Crow Company in collaboration with Zoë Life Sciences. Having replaced a pair of one- and four-story masonry buildings, the modern new tower is the second installation of the Fulton Labs campus plan, which also includes the nearby 14-story 1375 W Fulton Street that was completed last year.

609 W Randolph Progresses as the 23rd Tallest in Year-End Countdown

The recently topped-out 609 W Randolph Street takes the 23rd spot in Chicago YIMBY’s year-end countdown. The 15-story, 211-foot-tall high-rise comes to us from developer Vista Property Group and is designed by Antunovich Associates in the growing West Loop Gate neighborhood. The development which replaced a surface parking lot also included renovations of the existing adjoining five-story brick building built in the 1890’s.

Rush University’s Joan and Paul Rubschlager Building Takes 24th Spot in City’s Tallest Construction Countdown

Next on our list of Chicago’s Tallest Countdown is Rush University Medical Center’s new 10-story cancer and neurosciences building at 1520 W Harrison Street in the northwest corner of Little Italy. Known as the Joan and Paul Rubschlager Building following a significant gift from the namesake couple, the nearly completed facility stands 179 feet to its architectural pinnacle. Despite this height, planning documents indicate that a future expansion could bring the final height to 205 feet. The structure connects directly to the clover-shaped Rush University main building, with a 150-foot skybridge connecting the two edifices over Ashland Avenue.
