City Council Approves Landmark Status and Class L Incentive for Illinois Bell Building in The Loop

The Chicago City Council has approved the landmark status and Class L tax incentive for the Illinois Bell Building. Located at 225 W Randolph Street in The Loop, the tower is located at the intersection of W Randolph Street and N Franklin Street. The tower rises 427 feet over 31 floors, and was constructed in 1965. The building was originally home to the headquarters of its namesake tenant, the Illinois Bell Telephone Company, while most recently home to AT&T offices.

City Club Apartments MDA Phase II Wraps Up Facade in The Loop

Final exterior touches are underway for City Club Apartments MDA Phase II, a seven-story mixed-use addition to the existing 24-story MDA Tower. Located at 60 E Benton Place in The Loop, this two-building complex is owned by City Club Apartments, whose plans for the new building involve ground-level retail and 81 apartments. These added residences will comprise of studios, one-bedrooms, and larger penthouses, bringing the total unit count for the complex to 271.

Hotel Conversion Work Continues for 226 W Jackson Boulevard in The Loop

Photos show continued work at 226 W Jackson Boulevard in The Loop, the site of Phoenix Development Partners‘ planned conversion of a 15-story office building into a space for two Hilton hotels. The original 1904 limestone and terra cotta structure was designed by Frost & Granger, and housed offices for both the North Western Railway and City Colleges of Chicago up until its re-designation. As part of the conversion, the developer agreed to rehabilitate the exterior walls of the landmarked buildings in exchange for Class L tax incentives.
