St Regis Chicago Crowned as Countdown’s Tallest Active Construction Project

Wrapping up 2021’s year-end countdown is the 101-story St. Regis Chicago, anchored prominently at 375 E Wacker Drive along the Chicago River. Formerly known as Vista Tower and Wanda Vista Tower, this glassy Lakeshore East goliath has been planned by Magellan Development Group and will be managed under St. Regis Hotel and Resorts (subsidiary of Mariott). The height of the tower has been reported as several different figures, including 1,196 and 1,198 feet, though planning documents appear to indicate 1,191 feet as the most precise measurement from the Riverwalk to the architectural pinnacle.

Cirrus Condominiums Top Out As Seventh Tallest Development In 2021 Countdown

Topping out at the seventh spot of Chicago YIMBY’s year-end countdown is the Cirrus condominium development in Lakeshore East. Reaching a height of 562 feet, the tower is part of a greater project that is building up the last plots of land near the water of the multi-decade masterplan for the neighborhood. Developers Lendlease and Magellan have worked with bKL Architecture, whose office is in the nearby Aqua Tower, on the three-tower plan.

300 N Michigan Avenue Wraps Up Glass Installation as Countdown’s Eighth-Place Entry

At eighth place in Chicago YIMBY’s year-end countdown is 300 N Michigan Avenue, a 47-story mixed-use skyscraper developed by Sterling Bay at the northeast corner of The Loop. Rising 523 feet to its pinnacle, this nearly complete tower will house retail within its podium, a hotel on floors six to 15, and apartments on the 17th through 46th floors. The hotel portion will be a 280-key CitizenM, while the residential portion, dubbed “Millie on Michigan” will yield a total of 289 rental units.

Photos Show Demolition Prep for 160 N Morgan Tower in Fulton Market District

With a demolition permit approved this past Wednesday, equipment can be seen at the future site of 160 N Morgan Street, a 29-story mixed-use high rise planned for West Loop’s Fulton Market District. Developed by Sterling Bay, this 350-foot-tall tower will be replacing a former one-story masonry building.

Facade Encloses Top of 300 N Michigan Skyscraper in The Loop

Since YIMBY’s September update, glass has steadily enclosed most of the remaining floors at 300 N Michigan Avenue, a 47-story skyscraper that recently topped out in the northeast corner of The Loop. Developers Magellan Development Group and Sterling Bay have planned a mix of retail in the base, a 280-key CitizenM hotel on the sixth through 15th floors, and residential apartments on the 17th through 45th floors.

Completion Imminent for Cirrus Condo Tower in Lakeshore East

A full completion and move-ins are fast approaching for the new 47-story condominium tower known as Cirrus, situated at Lakeshore East‘s 211 N Harbor Drive. Developed by Lendlease and Magellan, the 350-unit tower is part of a larger masterplan occupying parcels I, J, K, and L within the Lakeshore East masterplan.

City Council Approves Rezoning For 160 N Morgan Street In West Loop

The Chicago City Council has approved the rezoning of 160 N Morgan Street in West Loop. The approval clears the way for the bKL-designed structure to rise near the CTA Green Line Morgan stop, adjacent to the popular late-night spot Federales. Developer Sterling Bay continues to leave its mark across the once meat-packing neighborhood with the new mixed-use structure featuring ground-floor retail to complement the surrounding area.

Plan Commission Approves Mixed-Use Development At 160 N Morgan Street In West Loop

The Chicago Plan Commission has approved a mixed-use development at 160 N Morgan Street in the West Loop. Slightly revised plans for the bKL Architecture-designed residential high-rise were presented by developer Sterling Bay as they continue to build up the former meat packing industrial area. Facing N Morgan street, the site which once held a drive-thru bank turned Gucci store pop-up, will give residents direct access to restaurant row, the CTA Green Line, and next door Federales bar.

300 N Michigan Tops Out at 47 Stories in The Loop

Last week, structural work reached the 510-foot-tall pinnacle of a new 47-story mixed-use skyscraper, located at 300 N Michigan Avenue in The Loop. The development is a joint-partnership between Sterling Bay and Magellan Development Group, whose plans entail a combination of retail in the base, a hotel on floors six through 15, and apartments on floors 17 through 45.

Cascade Apartments and Cascade Park Open in Lakeshore East

This week, the 37-story apartment tower known as Cascade and the adjacent Cascade Park both officially opened in Chicago’s Lakeshore Eastc neighborhood. Lendlease and Magellan have co-developed the overall project, which includes Cascade tower, a taller 47-story condominium tower known as Cirrus, and the public Cascade Park located at the foot of the towers.
