Two residential construction projects in Chicago, 220 North Ada in Fulton Market and 400 Lake Shore in Streeterville, erected tower cranes on their respective job sites last week. The two new cranes mark the 10th and 11th to operate in the city in the month of May.
Initial details and funding have been revealed for the second phase of the Lathrop Homes redevelopment situated around 2712 N Hoyne Avenue on the river. Located west of the triple intersection of N Damen Avenue, N Clybourn Avenue, and W Diversey Parkway, this extensive development has been in progress for several years under the Chicago Housing Authority (CHA), in collaboration with Related Midwest and Bickerdike Redevelopment Corp.
The Illinois Capital Development Board is now accepting bids for the construction of the Discovery Partners Institute (DPI) headquarters, a key component of the University of Illinois System’s Illinois Innovation Network. The state-of-the-art facility will be located within The 78, a 62-acre development along the Chicago River, on a 1.5-acre site donated by developer Related Midwest.
The construction of 400 Lake Shore Drive in Streeterville has recently advanced with a significant concrete pour, involving 250 truckloads delivering nine million pounds of concrete. The 72-story, 858-foot-tall tower is currently the tallest building under construction in the city and will be built on the site of the canceled Chicago Spire project. This first phase of a dual-skyscraper development by Related Midwest will span 1.1 million square feet and house 635 apartments, including 127 affordable housing units. Skidmore, Owings & Merrill’s Chicago office is leading the building’s design, with input from architect David Childs and the interior design by MAWD. The exterior features an interpretation of the iconic “Chicago Window” and incorporates a metal and glass facade with various setbacks, resulting in a distinctive sail-like shape.
Formal renderings have been revealed along with new details for the proposed White Sox stadium within The 78. Located on the massive 62-acre vacant lot along the Chicago River and near the South Loop, the team will relocate from their current home at Guaranteed Rate Field near Bridgeport. The proposal is being led by the team and developer Related Midwest with an undisclosed architect.
