Foundation work has begun at 224 South Ashland Avenue on the Near West Side. Here, 4Corners Real Estate is developing a five-story, 56-unit apartment building on the site of the former home of Loop Lawyers. That structure, at 220 South Ashland, got a demolition permit on April 14, 2022, with Taylor Excavating performing the demo work. A new construction permit was issued January 6, 2023, which, after a bit of a delay, was reinstated on February 22 of this year.

Demolition is underway on an L-shaped school building at 1310 South Ashland Avenue on the city’s Near West Side. The former home of Moses Montefiore School until 2016, and later Urban Prairie Waldorf School until its closing in June, the one- and two-story buildings are being cleared away to create space for a new residential development. The demo permit for the school was issued on August 21, with Heneghan Wrecking carrying out demo work.

New Racine Blue Line station takes shape over the Eisenhower Expressway

The outer shell is taking shape for the new Racine Blue Line station on Chicago’s Near West Side. The station, which lies between the inbound and outbound lanes of the Eisenhower Expressway, is part of the CTA’s $3 billion plan to reconstruct the Forest Park Branch of the Blue Line system. The Racine renovation alone, which extends from Racine Avenue to the east to Loomis Street to the west, is estimated to cost approximately $23 million.
