166 N Aberdeen Street Breaks Ground in Fulton Market District

With an official groundbreaking ceremony having taken place earlier this month, construction is now underway for a new 21-story mixed-use development at Fulton Market District‘s 166 N Aberdeen Street. This 220-foot-tall edifice planned by MCZ Development will provide 224 apartments atop ground-level retail. There will also be 70 off-street parking spaces and 50 bike spaces included in a ground-level garage. The new construction will replace the now-demolished Fabbri Sausage Factory, and will serve as the second phase of a two-building masterplan. The first stage of this plan was a shorter 11-story mixed-use building that lies directly across Aberdeen and was completed in 2018.

A Peek Inside The Lobby and Rooftop Area of 800 Fulton in West Loop

Last week, Chicago YIMBY had the opportunity to step inside 800 Fulton, a 19-story office and retail building that recently completed construction in West Loop‘s Fulton Market District. Developed by Thor Equities alongside joint venture partner QuadReal, the 300-foot monolith at 800 W Fulton Market spans nearly half a million square feet, offering tenants column-free layouts, private terraces, and 13-foot floor spans. The lower three levels offer 35,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space.

Chicago YIMBY Checks in on Southbank’s The Reed at 234 W Polk Street in South Loop

Since Chicago YIMBY’s last update on Lendlease’s “The Reed,” a planned 41-story residential tower at 234 W Polk Street in South Loop, various new developments have taken place. Fencing and additional equipment, including a crane, are now on site, while staging areas and an access road have been built out.

Cascade Apartments and Cascade Park Open in Lakeshore East

This week, the 37-story apartment tower known as Cascade and the adjacent Cascade Park both officially opened in Chicago’s Lakeshore Eastc neighborhood. Lendlease and Magellan have co-developed the overall project, which includes Cascade tower, a taller 47-story condominium tower known as Cirrus, and the public Cascade Park located at the foot of the towers.

Landscaping at Cascade Park Wraps in Lakeshore East

Work on the new 0.8-acre Cascade Park is wrapping up as part of Lendlease and Magellan Development Group‘s Cirrus & Cascade masterplan in Lakeshore East. While the park is to be privately owned and maintained, it will be open to both residents and the public. The park slopes downward from west to east, connecting the elevated N Harbor Drive to the lower lakefront level.

Interior and Landscaping Work Wraps Up at 800 W Fulton Market in the West Loop

Foundation Work Begins for The Reed in South Loop

Caisson work has kicked off for The Reed, a 41-story residential tower along the river in South Loop. Situated at 234 W Polk Street, the 447-foot-tall structure serves as the second phase of a larger five-building development by Lendlease known as Southbank. This masterplan was formerly occupied by a large grass parcel that had long been vacant. Underneath this land were a series of freight tunnels that have undergone a sealing process over the past few months, thereby allowing The Reed to proceed.

Final Cladding and Landscaping Underway for Lakeshore East’s Cirrus & Cascade

Construction is nearing completion for Cirrus and Cascade, two residential towers rising at 211 N Harbor Drive and 455 E Waterside Drive, respectively, in Lakeshore East. Developers Magellan and Lendlease have co-planned the project, which occupies Parcels J, K, and L within the original Lakeshore East masterplan.

800 W Fulton Market’s Exterior Reaches Completion in West Loop

Exterior construction is now complete for the mixed-use 800 W Fulton Market in West Loop‘s Fulton Market district. At 300 feet in height, the 18-story edifice is one of West Loop’s tallest buildings. Bound by Fulton Market, N Green Street, W Wayman Street, and N Halsted street, the full-block project has replaced a series of low- and mid-rise masonry buildings.
