DePaul Reveals Plans For New Student Athlete Facilities In Lincoln Park

Plans have been announced for the renovation and expansion of the current athletic facilities within the DePaul University Campus in Lincoln Park. Located at 2300 N Sheffield Avenue just north of the intersection with W Belden Avenue, the work comes after an 18-month period of internal and community discussions according to the university’s press release. Both phases of work are being designed by Antunovich Associates and HNTB.

Plan Commission Approves Fifth Third Arena Expansion In Near West Side

The Chicago Plan Commission has approved the expansion of the Fifth Third Arena at 301 S Damen Avenue in the Near West Side. Originally revealed earlier this year, the new construction will rise adjacent to the existing training center and replace a vacant lot. The development comes directly from Chicago Blackhawks with Kansas City-based Generator Studio on its design.

Further details have been revealed for the next expansion phase for the Fifth Third Arena at 301 S Damen Avenue in the Near West Side. Sitting on the corner with W Jackson Boulevard and just north of the Eisenhower, plans for the redevelopment of the greater site were revealed earlier this year with a future residential component. The Chicago Blackhawks themselves are leading the proposal for the enlarged training facility being designed by Kansas City-based Generator Studio.

Located on the southeastern corner with W Jackson Boulevard and bound by the Eisenhower to the south, the multi-phase plan will eventually replace a vacant lot just west of the arena. The overall plan is being led and developed by the Chicago Blackhawks as they seek to begin with an arena expansion.

Groundbreaking Held For Chicago Fire Facility In Near West Side

A groundbreaking has been held for the upcoming Chicago Fire FC facility at 1434 S Loomis Street in the Near West Side. Replacing a large majority of Addams/Medill Park which is mostly vacant land, the roughly 30-acre project will bring new life to the area on the former site of four CHA complexes demolished in 2007. The team itself is leading the development with Crawford Architects working on its design.

Permit Issued for Chicago Fire Training Center in Near West Side

A construction permit has been granted for the Chicago Fire soccer team’s new training center in the Near West Side. Situated within the CHA’s Roosevelt Square development plan, the 23.3-acre location is generally surrounded by W Roosevelt Road, S Ashland Avenue, W 14th Street, and S Loomis Street. Previously, the site was home to parts of CHA’s ABLA Homes.

Chicago Bears Purchase Arlington Heights Land

The Chicago Bears have announced the purchase of the land needed for their potential move to 2200 Euclid Avenue in Arlington Heights. Located on the nexus of Highways 14 and 53 roughly 28 miles northwest of their current home of Soldier Field, the team is nearing the end of a multi-year negotiation on where to call home with the City of Chicago and the state. The mixed-use megaproject is being led by the team itself and their president along with San Francisco based design-firm Hart Howerton.

Building Permits Issued For Wellness Center In Humboldt Park

Initial building permits have been issued for the new wellness center at 2933 W Division Street in Humboldt Park. Located on the southwest corner with N Richmond Street, the project was proposed early last year and moved its way through the Plan Commission and City Council prior to securing the current foundation permits. Developer Humboldt Park Health will replace an empty lot and a single two-flat building with a new angular structure designed by local architecture firm JGMA.

New Renderings Revealed For Soldier Field Revamp

Updated renderings and plans have been revealed for the redevelopment of Soldier Field in Museum Campus. Built in 1924, the famed structure is approaching its 100-year birthday on the cusp of another complete overhaul similar to the one it received in the early 2000s. The proposal has been in the works for a while now as the city tries to retain the Chicago Bears who are planning to move to Arlington Heights and create their own entertainment complex on the old racetrack grounds.
