The Chicago City Council has approved the mixed-use Free To BE Village development at 4427 N Clark Street in Uptown. Sitting on the corner with W Sunnyside Avenue, the project will replace a one-story building, vacant lot, and parking lot across the street from its developer the Black Ensemble Theater.
Site prep is complete, and foundation work has begun, for a new residential development on a former Byline Bank site in Uptown. Platinum Homes received a new construction permit to build at 4713 North Clark Street on January 6, and work is underway for a five-story masonry structure on the northeast corner with Leland Avenue.
An opening timeline has been announced for the fully renovated Clarendon Community Center at 4501 N Clarendon Avenue in Uptown. Sitting near the intersection with W Montrose Avenue, we last covered this project in 2022 as it scored all of its $13 million in funding. Now after nearly two years in the making, the center will reopen to the public this spring.
The Chicago Plan Commission has approved the latest plans for ‘The Free To BE Village’ at 4427 N Clark Street in Uptown. Originally pitched over a year ago, the project will rise on the corner with W Sunnyside Avenue and replace a vacant lot, parking lot, and one-story commercial building.
Plans are advancing to rezone a long strip of Broadway across the far north side. Led by the Department of Planning and Development (DPD), the proposal will upzone Broadway from Montrose Avenue on the south end, to Devon Avenue to the north. Plans have been presented to the local community twice already with a third meeting expected on January 30th.
