Update On Demolition For TimeLine Theatre at 5035 North Broadway in Uptown

Partial demolition of the former W. C. Reebie and Brother Storage building at 5035 North Broadway in Uptown has left only the rearmost portion of the structure still standing. The gutted skeleton of the five-floor building is all that remains, and even that has gaping holes in the roof and back wall, exposing it to the sky. What remains of this partial demo will be used as office spaces and to anchor the forthcoming development.

Demolition permit issued for W.C. Reebie & Brother Storage building in Uptown

A planned renovation of the W. C. Reebie & Brother storage building at 5035 North Broadway in Uptown will include demolition of the front portion of the building. The City of Chicago issued a demolition permit for the 1920-built, George Kingsley-designed structure on August 7. While the permit does not specifically state “partial demolition,” a spokesman for TimeLine Theatre, the building’s owner, confirmed “only the front” of the building will be demolished.

Initial Funds Approval Granted For New TimeLine Theater In Uptown

Initial Tax Increment Financing (TIF) approval has been granted for the new location of the TimeLine Theater Company at 5033 N Broadway in Uptown. Located just north of the intersection with W Argyle Street, near the CTA Red Line Argyle station which is undergoing renovation, the new arts center will utilize the bones of an existing five-story building while erecting a new facade. The theater itself is developing its new home which received City Council approval late last year and has been owned by the company since 2018, TimeLine is working with local architecture firm HGA on the design that borrows elements from the current structure.

City Council Approves Plans For New Theater At 5033 N Broadway In Uptown

The Chicago City Council has approved plans for a new theater building for the TimeLine Theater Company at 5033 N Broadway Avenue in Uptown. The building will be built in two phases, utilizing an existing century old warehouse building near the corner of N Broadway Avenue and W Argyle Street. The theater company which was started with $50 in 1997 has owned the building since 2018 and has been working with architecture firm HGA on the design which incorporates the existing glazed-tile building into its new home.
