After receiving a demolition permit in early August, wrecking work on the former W. C. Reebie & Brother storage building at 5035 North Broadway in Uptown is underway. The contracting team of Milburn Demolition and Bulley & Andrews is working from the south façade, carving hole into the side of the building and working their way inward.
A planned renovation of the W. C. Reebie & Brother storage building at 5035 North Broadway in Uptown will include demolition of the front portion of the building. The City of Chicago issued a demolition permit for the 1920-built, George Kingsley-designed structure on August 7. While the permit does not specifically state “partial demolition,” a spokesman for TimeLine Theatre, the building’s owner, confirmed “only the front” of the building will be demolished.
A renovation permit was issued August 1 by the city of Chicago to convert the former Mid-City Trust & Savings Bank building at 801 West Madison Street into a hotel. Built in 1912, it was designated a Chicago Landmark in 2012. Vacant since 2005, it was last occupied by MB Financial Bank.
Renovation efforts are underway at the John B. Murphy Memorial Auditorium building, situated at 50 E Erie Street in River North. The six-story structure, recognized for its French Renaissance-style designed by Marshall and Fox, was erected in 1926 for the American College of Surgeons. Featuring a three-story theater space, the building is adjacent to the Driehaus Museum and near the intersection of E Erie Street and N Wabash Avenue.
With structural work now filled, out the Bennett Day School at 955 W Grand Avenue in West Town is expanding its existing 50,000 square foot facility to nearly double its size. This independent PreK-12 school, now serving around 320 students, plans to increase its capacity to 600.
