Foundation work is underway for a pair of single-family residences taking the place of an 1890s building demolished in March. At 4846 and 4844 North Hermitage Avenue in Uptown, Amazing City LLC of Lake Zurich got permits on January 24 and January 30 respectively for the two-story homes. The two permits have identical specifications, and each indicates a reported construction cost of $1.034 million.

Hanna Architects is the architect of record. Details include outdoor space via roof decks and rear terraces on both structures, with pergolas and stair enclosures on both rooftops. Detached three-car garages off the alley at the rear of the lots will also have rooftop decks. Progress shows the basement foundations have been poured for both houses, marking the footprint each will have on the double lot.

Demolition permits for the previous residential building, erected in 1893, and an oversized garage on the alley were issued on March 7th. Only half of that garage has been torn down, for reasons that are unclear. There are expected to be a pair new parking structures erected here. As yet, there are no real estate listings for the two properties.

Residents of 4844 and 4846 North Hermitage will live within a two-block walk of the Ravenswood Metra station and its UP-N trains. The CTA’s Route 81 bus stops at the south end of the block along Lawrence Avenue. The southbound Route 9 Ashland bus is available at the Ravenswood Metra station. The Damen Brown Line elevated platform is about a five-block walk southwest.
