Construction has kicked off for the first tower of Halsted Pointe at 931 North Halsted Street on Goose Island. Sitting on the southeastern tip of the island, Halsted Pointe is replacing the now-demolished Greyhound bus facility just across the river from the upcoming Bally’s Casino. Canadian developer Onni has been working on the proposal for a few years now.

Caissons are finished, a groundbreaking ceremony has been held, and the tower crane is in the air for the Southbridge residential tower at 2305 South State Street in the Near South Side. A shiny yellow Liebherr 316 EC-H model began its rise on Tuesday, as crews from general contractor McHugh Construction, concrete contractor McHugh Concrete, and tower crane gurus Morrow Equipment got to work on assembly.
Plans have been announced for a major remodel of Water Tower Place at 835 North Michigan Avenue in the Magnificent Mile area. The historic vertical mall has been one of the core anchors of the shopping district since its completion in 1975. The remodel is being led by the mall’s current owner, MetLife Investment Management.
Addition by subtraction is underway on the Leon Hotel at 2701 North Clark Street in Lincoln Park, as selective demolition takes place ahead of the renovation and expansion of the former Single Room Occupancy building. The building, located on the northeast corner of Clark Street and West Drummond Place, has been gutted, with clear skies showing through the top of the building, and windows have been removed.
A developer who got a permit in May of last year to build three residential units in the 3100 block of West Polk Street in East Garfield Park received permission on April 24 to build another three-flat next door at 3113 West Polk. In addition, they have three more pending permits in the Chicago Data Portal for this block of West Polk.
