Work by demolition contractor Precision Excavation began this week, in anticipation of the new 24-unit apartment building to be built on the site.

Mangan Builders will replace the former Rexx Rugs buildings to make way for the new $7 million construction. As of now, permits for the project have been submitted, but the construction timeline has not been determined.

Located at 5035 N Sheridan Road and filed under the cross street address of 952 W Carmen Avenue, the project was approved by the Plan Commission last month. The development will replace a current single-story commercial structure and will feature 77 residential units, along with a ground-floor retail space.
