Zoning has been initially approved for the new hotel project at 3257 N Halsted Street in Lake View. Located on the corner with W Aldine Avenue in the heart of Northalsted, the proposal received approval from both the Committee on Zoning and Alderman Lawson. The project is being developed by Allan O’Brien who owns Men’s Room Chicago nearby.

Late last year we covered when plans were originally revealed, with the building set to replace the former home of Yoshi’s Cafe and its adjoining parking lot. Designed by Jonathan SPLITT Architects, the six-story building will rise around 76-feet in height and be clad in a mix of dark brick, prefabricated panels, and decorative colored fins.

The ground floor of the building will contain the lobby and a large corner restaurant space with both a street level and raised patio. This will be joined by two parking spaces off of the alley and a speakeasy style lounge in the basement floor. Additional parking for guests and visitors will be negotiated with some of the existing surrounding lots.

The remaining floors will hold 52 hotel rooms made up of a mix of single king and two double bed layouts. This will be capped by a rooftop bar and pool deck which can be enclosed in a glass roof during the winter months. A large mural will potentially grace the southern facade of the structure with no windows.

With alderman approval, an agreement with the local community on operating hours and noise mitigation, and Committee on Zoning approval, the project will just need its final green light from City Council prior to groundbreaking. A timeline and cost are currently unknown.

It looks like the mural of the Chicago flag only has 3 stars in the last pictures, does anyone know why?
Rectangles don’t crop well in a circle. Either gotta scale, or you lose some content.
My guess, at least.
No longer deserves 4th star, downgraded to reflect reality.
This should make for a great addition/southern anchor along the Northalsted corridor. Hopefully something complementary fills the former FFC space along the block across from it as things develop.
Let’s hope the design improves over time. This looks really cheap. And Lakeview doesn’t need any more vacant storefront property on the ground level.
