1000M Continues Ascent in South Loop

As concrete and steel continue to rise, the podium is now taking shape for a planned 73-story residential tower known as 1000M, located at 1000 S Michigan Avenue in South Loop. At a revised height of 788 feet, the skyscraper is currently one of Chicago’s tallest active construction projects, helping to expand city’s skyline further south. After a 20-month stall, developer trio JK Equities, Time Equities, and Oak Capitals have updated their condominium plans to 738 rental units, ranging in size from studios up through three-bedrooms.

Drilling Begins for West Loop’s Embry Development

Caisson drilling has begun for the 15-story condominium high rise known as Embry, located at 21 N May Street in West Loop. This residential project by Sulo Development will house a total of 58 for-sale units, ranging from two- to four-bedroom residences and spanning from 1,828 and 5,187 square feet. This 207-foot-tall edifice will replace an empty lot that once housed a two-story masonry building.

Embry Breaks Ground in West Loop

Work has begun on a 15-story condominium building known as Embry, located at 21 N May Street in West Loop. The 207-foot-tall boutique tower will replace a pair of previously demolished masonry buildings along the relatively quiet May Street, just north of the busier Madison Street intersection. Given its height, the tower would have ranked 24th in Chicago YIMBY’s 2021 countdown of tallest construction developments.

St Regis Chicago Crowned as Countdown’s Tallest Active Construction Project

Wrapping up 2021’s year-end countdown is the 101-story St. Regis Chicago, anchored prominently at 375 E Wacker Drive along the Chicago River. Formerly known as Vista Tower and Wanda Vista Tower, this glassy Lakeshore East goliath has been planned by Magellan Development Group and will be managed under St. Regis Hotel and Resorts (subsidiary of Mariott). The height of the tower has been reported as several different figures, including 1,196 and 1,198 feet, though planning documents appear to indicate 1,191 feet as the most precise measurement from the Riverwalk to the architectural pinnacle.
